Leslie is now 9 months old. We go to Michelle Ashe Photography for her pictures Tuesday!
  • She is still the happiest baby God ever made! I love her two-toothed grin!
  • She has become a master at pulling up and "speed crawling," or as Jody likes to call it, her "Hitler Crawl" (because of how high she lifts her arm before slamming it down).
  • She has made progress with sippy cups - the straw ones anyway.
  • Watching her crawl around the house is fascinating. To me, it's like watching her go about her job. She seems to take her exploration so seriously and studies things with great intent. She's especially curious about the cd player in her room. She crawls over to it daily to "work" on it. All the while she is exploring, she'll occassionally make her random chirping noises, which I find completely adorable. She has succeeded in crawling up a step or two (scary).
  • She is impossible to bathe...she constantly tries to pull up while she's in the tub...and tries to bite the side of the tub.
  • Very exciting news for mom and dad -- she seems to have learned what no means!! For example, she bites EVERYTHING. As she pulls up to any object, she opens her mouth to bite on it. Well, we didn't appreciate her biting our living room coffee table, so we've been saying "no" and "don't bite". Now, when she's pulling up...she opens her mouth.....then looks at me. I say "No, don't bite," and she smiles and pulls up the rest of the way without biting the table. Exciting, right????
  • She doesn't do any copy-catting..no wave hello or bye-bye (I wasn't worried about this until the doc asked whether she was doing it), and no signs (which I wouldn't really expect yet). She does love to watch her baby signs video, though. It's the only one she'll watch, which is fine with me.
  • She has finally begun to show interest in a book (other than eating it). She now stops what she's doing when I read Goodnight Moon. Jody read it to her for the first time last night. He began the story when she was across the room "working" on the CD player. She immediately stopped what she was doing, crawled over to him, and pulled up to watch him read more closely. When the book was over she got down, he put her to bed, and she was asleep within two minutes!
  • She still isn't showing a LOT of interest in Walker...although she watches him more than she used to and occasionally reaches out to touch his paw (only his paw...nothing else).

After the bath...

So I hear lots of parents talk about how calm their babies are after their bath. Not so much here.

Leslie and Walker

Leslie starting pulling up today! Unfortunately, it's made for some tumultuous nap/bedtimes. I've never seen her resist going to sleep this much!!

Tooth!

So I had to go to Atlanta for three days for work this week. When I got home, my baby had a tooth! Jody had called and said she awoke crying Friday (not like her), and he couldn't calm her. Sure enough, when I finally got home, a tooth had broken the skin!

Other updates: She's rocking on all fours like crazy, although she only travels backward! My prediction was she'd be crawling by Valentine's day, but I have a feeling it'll be even sooner.

The Play Pen

Michelle loaned us her play pen...and Leslie just LOVES it, and it gives me some peace of mind to know that, as she gets more mobile, I can keep her safe while cooking dinner :)

Michelle, again!

I have not blogged in FOREVER!! We went to Michelle Ashe Photography today, and just got too many good pictures, as usual. So I'm gonna post some of my favorites!

This month has given us many firsts. She has eaten her first vegetables. She has finally mastered rolling from stomach to back, so she's rolling all over the place now! She does the "Indian" sound when you pat her mouth. We left her for the first time, and flew to Vegas for four days. While we were gone, she learned the artful task of putting her foot in her mouth (this is also when she accomplished the rolling all over).

With the introduction of solid foods, the high chair was also introduced. She loves it! Since she can't sit up on her own (although she began "tripod-ing" on Sunday), it helps her sit up with her toys in front of her on the tray. She plays contentedly like this for quite a while. Of course, her favorite place is still the changing table. Her mood just brightens there for some reason...it amazes both Jody and me.

Leslie has been a very very happy baby, but I have to say this last month has been the most fun for us so far, excluding the first blissful two weeks after her birth. She actually cries so little that, when she does cry, Jody and I watch and giggle for a minute before we give in to what she wants. That probably sounds cruel, but I suppose we are enamored by everything she does, including her cry! As my mother says, Leslie "smiles with her whole body." It's just this joyful smile. I know that all parents are warmed by their children's smiles, but it's somehow surprising each of the 100 times she smiles each day. We have to work ourselves to death to get a laugh, though ;)

It's crazy that I was a journalism major and can't write any better than this, but I'm just trying to write down everything as quickly as possible so that I will remember when she's done these things, otherwise it'll never get done ;)
